Holocene is a collaborative filmconcert by author Majgull Axelsson, composer Jonas Bohlin and artist Lars Siltberg.

Premiered at Berwaldhallen august 24, 2008. Performed by Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Radiochoir and solo singer Malena Ernman, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.

The rapid climat changes we seem to be facing has greatly increased the interest for the arctic area. This project describes a future with a lot of human potential, not only by pondering the history of mankind from a historical view but also by means of an analytical perspective on media mythology. Holocene has the form of a cinematic oratorio, with nearly 130 musicians and Siltberg's phantasmgorical vision "Alterhuman" above their heads. The film concept of an evolution on collission with natural laws, envisions a gory yet naturalistic view on human evolution. With a clash of fantasies and realism the concert succeds in touching the sublime environment represented by the arctic.

Axelsson, Bohlin and Siltberg travelled together through arctica with icebreaker Oden in the summer of 2005, from Sweden, through the north west passage, to Alaska, taking part of the artist programme of the Swedish Polar Research Institute. They met for the first time on the boat. Back on land they formed this investigation on contemporary dystopias, and it turned into a question about the human need to worry about the future.
